Otradnoye (Russian: Отрадное) is a location in ATOM RPG, the first town the Cadet comes upon.

Description[]

Otradnoye is the first place the Cadet visits after being robbed by bandits. It is a peaceful village run by comrade Kovalev.

It is here that the cadet will begin his investigation for ATOM and receive his first quests.

Founded right after the war by Kovalev. The town was built around an old oak tree near a stream with clear water. The tree still serves as a symbol for the village. The folk are hard working and kind though they seem to be made up of older citizens. The town is famous for its mushrooms.

The village is suffering from a drought and raids by bandits led by Dan.

Dan's men demand money from them every month. The village tried making peace but nothing worked.

At one point the town hired seven mercenaries to fight the bandits. Using all the money they had. The bandits killed all of them and then raised the extortion fee since they could afford to hire mercenaries.

Village council[]

It is located immediately after entering the settlement, to the right of the north gate, from the side of guard Yan.

After completing the task Katya gave you, Chairman Kovalev gives you a chain of quests related to the Factory Gangsters. And here you can just listen to the TV and the latest news from the Wastes.

In a bookshelf behind the guard of the treasury, to the left of the safe, lies the book: "Short dictionary of criminal slang". It grants the ability "Streetwise", which gives additional branches in dialogues with criminals. (If you try to take the book from the shelf, it will be considered stealing. You can read the book without it being considered theft be reading it in the bookshelf.)

Tavern[]

The owners of the tavern are the bartender Vasya and his sister Katya, who is the accountant. Bartender Vasya asks you to collect a book from Krasnoznamenny. If you accept he gives you a book receipt which you will have to give to the the book seller in the city and bring to him. His sister, who is sitting at a table and constantly accounting something, gives the quest "Gathering Mushrooms". You have to complete this quest to start the Otradnoye main quest line. For completing the quest she will give you a note for Comrade Kovalev to allow you to work for him and some Rubles if you pass either a speech or a barter check.

With enough Personality and Speechcraft skills, you can talk Kovalev tell about the family. He will tell you that he is Katya's father, and he will ask not to tell anyone. Infirmary[]

Water Tower[]

Located in the city at the western wall. However the generator doesn't work. Grankin, in the house a couple of steps to the east of the generator will ask you to fix it. Either pass a Tinkering skill check to repair it yourself, or rescue the mechanic Steblev from the Factory who will repair it for you.

After repairing and starting the pump in the sink, it will be possible to draw water from it (take the container in hand and click on the sink).

Stash[]

From the entrance a little to the left. It looks like a small mound in the grass, surrounded by a wooden frame. Inside is a Knife, Stimulant and 7.62mm ammunition.

Ruined house[]

To get to the basement, you need to press the light switch on the south wall, and then on the bed, to move it out of the way.

In the basement a bit of rubbish, the Nutcracker and the safe. The safe code is reported by the mechanic Steblev after the rescue (or you could lockpick it).

To open the "Nutcracker", you need to get out of the basement, turn off the light there, go down to the basement. A rat will appear there. Take the Toy Sword from her corpse, take in hand and click on the "Nutcracker". You will receive a golden walnut, which can be sold for a good price.

Lake[]

Located in the southeastern corner of the map. On the shore is a rural fisherman. For a bottle of pre-war vodka (prewar vodka, prewar gorilka or pre-war brandy) teaches the skill "Entomology" which allows you to get bait from insects (wasp legs, ant salivary gland, spider brain or arachnid lymph node).

Standing next to him is a fishing rod with which you can fish. you can catch: horned smelt, humpback, three-eyed catfish, boot and a log. There is a small chance to catch the Golden Fish, which asks you to let it go. In exchange, it offers to increase any characteristic by +1.

Between the lake and the northern edge of the map is the second stash, which contains 20 rubles, tea and coffee.

Cemetery[]

To the west of the city. Graves can be excavated with a shovel, there are few different items inside the graves. NPCs do not respond to this.

Rural shepherd[]

At the western edge of the map is approximately at the level of the southern gate, a bonfire and a gatehouse. You can search this place. A shepherd stands by the fire. You can play dice with him and gamble. The shepherd is guaranteed to die in the attack of scumbags (along with the sheep).

Cornfield[]

At the western wall closer to the south. Quest to collect corn for Old Semyon in the house next door, the reward - Old hunting rifle. In addition to corn on the field, you can pick up a shovel. But after that you can sow on this field corn grains. At the moment, it is quite useless, because the result brings less money than the sale of seeds.

Toxic landfill[]

This is located in the northeastern most corner of the map. In the box there is a single antidote but without a gas-mask you will get poisoned.

Dump[]

To the east of the south gate is a dump where you can find 3 pieces of scrap metal and 2 logs.

Cobblestones Spiral[]

Located in the southern part of the map, almost opposite the bus. At night, in the center of the helix, you can read a special book (Unaussprechlichen Kulten) which at the end of the quest (deal with a gang of sectarians who rob and kill second-hand booksellers) can be taken from the seller of books Abraham instead of money. You need to wait for the night, eat one mushroom, stand in the center of the spiral, start reading the book — at this moment a monster appears (Shog). For the murder of Shog, the Cadet will get about 700 experience. There is nothing in the corpse.

Bus[]

Opposite the south gate. You can find a condom in it. The bus is radioactive. Do not linger next to it without taking a RAD-0 pill or you will get irradiated.

Stones in stones[]

From guard Yan, to the right, between an artificially built pile of stones and the abandoned house. To open you need power or the help of a companion. Do not use a shovel — it will break.
